The Cuan

The Cuan has been a feature of the stunning coastal village of Strangford for more than 30 years. It changed hands in 2020 and underwent extensive renovation and upgrading. It is now a stylish, modern hotel full of character. The designer Suzanne Garuda has given every room (including the 9 bedrooms) a different style and outlook.

Chef Gerard Sands is at the helm in the kitchen of this casual dining restaurant. He is leading a great team who all make the most of local fresh, seasonal ingredients. Not surprisingly, being on the coast, Marty Johnston’s East Coast Seafoods are a big feature on the menu.

There are specials every week as well as different vegetarian and vegan options.

Think Strangford seafood chowder, smoked bacon, stout wheaten and

Abernethy butter to start and maybe Kilkeel crab linguini, king prawns, pickled fennel, chilli and parsley for mains. Dessert might be a warm nutty crumble toffee apple tart. You can eat in the bistro or the dining room or have a snack at the bar.

The wines are from local supplier Jim Nicholson and from a Dublin based company, Searsons, to ensure there is a wide selection that diners will not necessarily have seen before.

Check out the overnight and weekend packages so you can book in for dinner and enjoy the breakfast and lunch, too.
