Montalto Estate

Nestled on the outskirts of Ballynahinch, this gem exudes a genuine wow factor. Its stunning appeal comes from the grounds, gardens, buildings, and especially the food and drink. The Café, led by Executive Head Chef Alastair Fullerton, offers a variety of fresh, locally inspired dishes. By showcasing produce from local artisan suppliers, Montalto has cultivated strong relationships with them. Alastair sources ingredients from suppliers, such as Springmount Farm, Ewing’s Seafoods, Draynes Farm, and Kennedy Bacon, incorporating these into the weekly menu and daily specials. The 400-acre estate’s gardening team, led by Head Gardener Lesley Heron, grows a significant amount of produce for use in The Café, truly embracing the concept of food provenance.

Speaking about the seasonal menu, Alastair said: “Our delicious breakfast, lunch, and stone-baked pizza menus are crafted to tantalise the taste buds of every visitor. I designed the menus to cater to a wide range of preferences, from traditional options to more adventurous choices. The menus change with the seasons, offering fragrant pasta dishes and fresh salads made with sustainably and locally produced ingredients whenever possible. Later in the year, we feature autumn-inspired hot dishes and warming winter soups, perfect for enjoying after a brisk walk in our Trail & Gardens. Additionally, The Café is known for its traditional Sunday Roasts, which are now a favourite among families and locals, offering a true taste of home.”

Beyond the daily offerings, The Café at Montalto hosts themed evenings and events, showcasing the best of local cuisine and creating a vibrant food culture. These events often feature unique menus that highlight the estate’s connections with local suppliers, ensuring a fresh and authentic dining experience. Whether it’s a private party or one of our signature themed nights, guests can always expect a feast of both traditional and modern dishes, all freshly prepared on-site. The Café offers an array of home-baked desserts and breads, made daily from scratch, adding a sweet touch to any visit.

This 5-star rated visitor attraction’s Café also boasts a fabulous outdoor seating area. No booking is required, as The Café operates on a walk-in basis.
