Set amidst ten wooded acres near the village of Maghera, Ardtara is one of Northern Ireland’s most elegant restaurants and country house retreats. Built in 1896 by Harry Clark of the world-famous linen family, the house reflects the area’s proud linen heritage and today combines historic charm with award-winning dining.

The Clark Restaurant is renowned for its passion for local suppliers and seasonal cooking. Menus showcase the best Northern Irish produce along with fruit, vegetables and herbs grown in Ardtara’s own gardens. Everything is made from scratch – from freshly baked breads and chutneys to desserts, stocks and sauces – with a focus on provenance, flavour and quality. Guests can enjoy fine dining in the evening, indulgent afternoon tea with a contemporary twist, relaxed dining from the bar menu, or a traditional Sunday lunch.

Diners are welcomed into two atmospheric settings: the Clark Room, originally the games room with two roaring fireplaces beneath a glass canopy, and the light-filled Garden Restaurant, a conservatory space also available for private dining for up to 24 guests.

Overnight guests enjoy individually designed bedrooms with original Victorian features, many with working fireplaces, paired with modern comforts. Breakfast is freshly cooked to order and served with Thompson Family teas and locally roasted Upperlands coffee – a continuation of the house’s commitment to quality and heritage.
