Back by popular request this time on Sunday 19th February, Holywood’s second seed swap event will take place at Redburn Community Centre, Jackson’s road, 2.45-5.00pm.

It may be cold now, but things are hotting up in the potting shed as gardeners ready their seed collection for the longer, lighter days ahead.

Often we don’t manage to empty a pack of seeds or don’t want to grow the same variety year on year.  A seed swap gives gardeners the opportunity to exchange one packet of seeds for a different one while sharing hands on growing tips.  Waste not want not for these difficult times.

“This is a also a great opportunity for those who have perhaps not started gardening and would like a few seeds and friendly advice to get them going.  You don’t have to have seeds to swap as each on the door donation entitles you to three packets.”

Seeds can be fruit, flower or, vegetable, bought or saved but must be valid for the 2012 growing season. This year, those who have seed potatoes or other seedling plants can also bring them along to exchange.

Tea and coffee will be available and children will be able to make up seed packets and take away some sunflower seeds. There will also be information available on how to save your own seeds. Everyone is welcome to come along, donation 50p per adult at the door.

The event is run by Holywood Transition Town.  Those interested in the Seed Swap Sunday or Holywood Transition Town can contact Sacha Workman on 077 1058 5876 or sw@meenacahan.co.uk or Mandy Macgillivary macmandy69@hotmail.com  07827 399165
