Bushmills Salmon and Whiskey Festival is based on the success of two products from the area on the banks of the River Bush – Salmon and Whiskey.  The event will be a celebration of the local culture, heritage and produce and will deliver a unique experience for everyone.

The event will highlight the journey of the fish of knowledge to its final spawning ground in the Bush as well as over 400 years of Whiskey distilling. There will be traditional and world music, art events, workshops, exhibitions and tours showcasing the local culture and heritage and the impact that the industries has had on local community cohesion, community life, folk lore, music and heritage as well as fun activities.

A cookery demonstration by celebrity cook Paula McIntyre and a competition based on the Great British ‘bake off’ will be hosted by The Distillers Arms which will bring our local food culture into play.

The festival events will take place at various sites throughout the village – on open stages, in church halls, the hostel, marquees and local business premises.  Plus Dundarave House viewing is listed on the program itinerary – Sir Malcolm MacNaughten will open the Estate house to the public for the first time.

Experienced local acts, groups and individuals are part taking in the provision of the activities and anyone wishing to participate on the day will have the opportunity to do so by entering the themed ‘Salmon and Whiskey’ Fancy Dress, the Cookery ‘Bake Off’ and ‘Brighter Bushmills’ Treasure Hunt.

The Festival will provide an opportunity to tell the good news story of Bushmills, improve relationships within Bushmills and beyond, by being inclusive of both local people and visitors, build on recent exciting events such as the Olympic torch relay and the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations and forge links with the UK City of Culture Celebrations.

All of this will contribute to the portrayal of Northern Ireland as a vibrant, colourful, cohesive community with the capacity to deliver events and attractions that rival any others in the world.

Salmon and Whiskey food dishes will theme throughout the day.  Local restaurants, cafés, guest house, fast food takeaways and local community organisations will cater for visitors’ dining needs on the day…..
