This food tour takes around Bushmills, learning how forward thinking and innovative the people of this village were and how much good food is now on offer.

At Cooper’s Deli, Fiona explains her links to the Bushmills Distillery and her commitment to ‘local’ while we eat soda bread and goat bacon washed down with one of the best cups of tea I’ve ever tasted.

Up to glasses fruit and veg shop – a cornucopia of the freshest, tastiest fruit and veg in Ireland. Mandy is quite rightly extraordinarily proud of her shop and all her family have achieved. You’ll be inspired.

After the Salmon Research Station and hearing about smolts, parr and fry, you’ll sample some of North Coast Smokehouse’s truly delicious hot roasted, smoked salmon – truly scrumptious.

Now we need a glass of something to wash it down, right? Luckily we’re only a wee dander (small walk) from the world famous Bushmills Distillery. They have agreed to let you have a glass of the 12 year old whiskey – only available on site. You might be persuaded to buy a whole bottle.

On to Tartine at the Distillers Arms – an enchanting restaurant where Gary serves a seasonal plate of lusciousness – we have to trust him as to what is just perfect that day. Go chef.

No food tour on the Causeway Coastal Route would be complete without a poke of chips (A little mouthful of chips that is). The award winning Hip Chip provides this and Geoffrey talks to us about potatoes and community.

A few steps away, there’s a butcher’s shop selling honey and whiskey sausages – again, a purchase might be in order?

A cup of coffee is needed at this point, and perhaps something sweet? Aha The French Rooms are open and Stella and Roy waiting to give us just that. We get there through their deli which showcases so many local food heroes from jams and chutneys to salt and dulse (sea weed).

We finish in the Bushmills Inn, where I leave you to digest your food tour in comfort and elegance, in front of a real turf fire. Just perfect.

£40 per person.
