21st August: Preparations are underway for the first ever Belfast Restaurant Week, with Belfast City Council teaming up with the city’s top chefs as food fans get ready for the big event which takes place from 6th – 13th October.

The initiative will see chefs from across Belfast join forces for the week-long campaign which is designed to showcase the wealth of quality dining experiences Belfast has to offer.

Over 70 city centre restaurants and food outlets have signed up to the initiative which will celebrate the best of Belfast food by offering diners specially-themed signature dishes from our best chefs and money-off deals at some of the city’s most loved eateries.

Belfast Restaurant Week is being organised by Belfast City Council and is supported by many of the city’s most talented chefs including Michael Deane, Nick Price, Niall McKenna, Paul Rankin and Brian McCann.

Alderman Christopher Stalford, Chairman of Belfast City Council`s Development Committee, said: “Belfast Restaurant Week is a fantastic initiative which provides huge support for the restaurant industry. Not only does it dedicate a week to celebrating our city`s excellent restaurant and eating out choices, but it also will hopefully encourage more people to experience and enjoy our city`s thriving restaurant scene.

“We have many food heroes in the city, and extremely talented chefs, who are receiving major recognition around the world and are true ambassadors for our excellent food and, indeed, for Belfast and Northern Ireland.  Through Belfast Restaurant Week, we aim to recognise and profile their achievements closer to home.”

Restaurateur Michael Deane added: “The world-class Belfast restaurant scene is something that foodies from across Northern Ireland should be incredibly proud of, and through Belfast Restaurant Week, we will celebrate the city’s culinary excellence with a special campaign of special food and unique offers.”

Restaurants wishing to take part in Belfast Restaurant Week, which runs from October 6th – 13th, can still register their interest, with more information available at www.belfastcity.gov.uk/belfastrestaurantweek or www.gotobelfast.com. The deadline for registration is August 31.

Belfast Restaurant Week has been created by Belfast City Council, in partnership with Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board. The scheme will feature a range of activities including special showcase signature dishes from participating chefs, food tours, new dining experiences, `pop up` restaurants and suppliers` markets and much more.
