Deli MURU

Deli MURU is Finnish for… ‘a little something’. Since it first appeared, artisan enterprise, Deli Muru has already made its presence felt on the local scene. With one Great Taste Award under its belt for Brinjal Pickle, the brand can be found in some of Ulster’s leading restaurants and delicatessens.

Founder Kay Armstrong is passionate about using predominantly locally sourced ingredients and including other artisan elements within her range. She collaborates with some of the best, including Keen Nutrition in the Almond Butter Biscuits and Barney’s Brew from Hilden Brewery in the bestselling Pear, Mango and Ale Chutney. Shortcross Gin can be found in the Orange ‘Spoon’ Preserve and Harnett’s Oils also feature in the ingredients. Her passion for creating top quality food shines through each and every product. All of the ingredients are listed on the labelling.

 

 

 

BALLYCASTLE TOWN MARKET

The Ballycastle Town Market offers a stage for exceptional local produce and handcrafted items. It’s based at the scenic seafront in the town but often travels to other locations to support local events.

The Market is known for its known for its great selection of produce, variety of knowledgeable, friendly traders, passionate about their produce, all eager to share their stories, and never happier then when they are talking about what they have made.

You’ll be amazed at the quality of the local produce and handcrafted goods. Each market offers something different, with a varying range of traders. You’re always guaranteed to see something new!

It generally comprises of around 30 traders with a mix of local food producers, artists and crafters. They operate a strict trading criteria and offer trading to traders based on a membership status and casual trader status.

THE YELLOW DOOR

If you live in Northern Ireland, you’ve probably tasted a Yellow Door scone or loaf.  Owner Simon Dougan is obsessed with properly-made bread and bakes. He and his team are true artisan bakers who produce their breads from top-quality, untreated, unbleached flour, natural fats and oils, free-range eggs, Irish milk and buttermilk. They don’t believe in using chemical yeast enhancers or preservatives.

They also do delicious patisserie, traditional cakes, tarts, gateaux and tray bakes as well as special occasion and birthday cakes. There’s a range of options for outside catering from finger food to full-on banquets. They cater in all sorts of different venues, from castles to marquees, national trust properties, public buildings, family homes and great big fields!

Miss McKeown’s

Miss McKeown’s was established in Bangor in early 2014. Beautiful vintage packaging and an ambitious charity donation scheme complement her focus on superior ingredients and full flavours. She donates a cup of tea for every cup you buy.

Her distinctive blends include the Great Taste Award-winning single-estate Assam and the subtle delicate Pear Champagne. The range of traditional cafe blends is enriched with quirkier offerings such as Warm Gingerbread, Goblin Market and Quartermain’s Study.

Her careful selection of only the finest whole-leaf teas, and her commitment to superior botanicals (from real fruit pieces to pure cocoa shells), promises indulgence in every cup.  Take some time, let it brew, watch the leaves unfold and the colour swirl out into the water. FRAISE ET CHOCOLAT

This coffee shop in Tandragee is a real gem. Owned by Alistair Toal, it’s everything you would want in a café and more. It used to be an old bank and lots of people come to get their picture taken in the old safe. Then they sit down to munch on bestsellers like Hot Glenarm Beef Sandwich on Rosemary and Onion Focaccia and Cod and Chips.

Alistair is utterly committed to using local produce like Suki tea, Abernethy Butter, Yellow Door breads, Dromona butter and Ristretto coffee. He even grows his own lettuce for those super salads and sandwiches.

Lots of people drop in for morning coffee or afternoon tea. His caramel squares are the stuff of local legend. The café is right beside Tayto Castle so make sure to pop up when you next visit.

DEANES DELI BISTRO

Deanes Deli Bistro on central Bedford Street in Belfast is relaxed, fun and fabulous. It has established itself as a firm favourite in the city given its location. It is a regular haunt for celebrities wanting to wind down with great food and wine or a delicious cocktail, as well as media types and business people seeking the perfect place to ‘do the deal’ over lunch!

Serving lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday the a la carte menus are supplemented by daily blackboard and Big Green Egg specials. As ever, the best local and seasonal produce is on the menu. Pre-Theatre Mon-Sat 5.30-7pm 2 courses £15.50 3 courses £18.00
