Naturally North Coast & Glens

Naturally North Coast & Glens delivers a genuine community artisan market across and beyond the North Coast and Glens area in Northern Ireland. It’s a platform for exceptional artisan produce and high quality hand-crafted goods created by our talented growers, food producers, artists, designers and crafters in the region.

Fresh aromas, vivid colours, eclectic treasures, buzzing crowds – a mere stroll amongst the many stalls of an Artisan Market are enough to invigorate the senses and whet the appetite. The market is for anybody who cares about the quality and provenance of the food they eat, for those that seek something different from what is found on supermarket shelves. It provides a cornucopia of exquisite handcrafted, artistic items and an opportunity to interact with the artisan who has produced them.

Their stallholders are themselves primary producers – people who grow, make, create, style, rear, craft or bake the products that they sell. As a result, the Artisan Markets have become a vast repository of culinary knowledge, artisan craftsmanship and skills from previous generations. It’s a place to explore, to ask questions, to discover new flavours, stumble upon raw talent, unearth entrepreneurship, nurture bygone mastery, and to savour a unique, buzzing atmosphere.

Naturally North coast and Glens offers more than just their popular Artisan Markets, They also do touring markets, creative weekend art, craft and heritage workshops, trader workshops, membership and casual trader status, student and community trading rates and BTM canopy hire.

SHORTCROSS GIN

Shortcross Gin is Northern Ireland’s first premium craft gin, distilled with pride at Rademon Estate Distillery in Crossgar, County Down.

Their small batch philosophy ensures that every aspect of the gin meets their exacting vision. From foraging in the surrounding country estate for botanicals, to labelling, signing and wax dipping every bottle- everything is crafted and perfected by hand.

A classical gin, with a unique twist; best described as floral meadow, wild berries and grassy notes. It is a smooth gin, with an exceptionally long finish.

They laid down their first malt whiskey in summer 2015. Can’t wait till it’s ready in 2018!

MORELLI’S ICE CREAM

Morelli’s manufacture more than 45 flavours of ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt at their production plant in Coleraine. Having established their own ice cream parlours and coffee shops on the beautiful North Coast many years ago, the Italian family now makes ice cream for stockists all over Ireland .

Morelli’s ice cream is made using the unique combination of an Italian recipe and quality Irish diary ingredients. The most popular flavours in the range are Double Cream Vanilla and Honeycomb. More unusual flavours are Parma Violet, Sea Salty Caramel and Gingerbread Crunch. The company also produces seasonal special flavours on a limited edition basis.

Still very much a family affair, Guido Morelli (80) develops his own recipes and his five children all have active roles within the business. The latest product in the range is a range of scoopable frozen yogurts made with Clandeboye Estate Greek Style yogurt.

Clandeboye Estate Yoghurt

Once upon a time in the heart of County Down there was a herd of very happy pedigree cows…. rolling hills, acres of fresh green pastures, warm dry barns for when there’s a chill in the air and a Lady owner who loves them so much she paints their portraits!

It’s no surprise that Willow, Cecilia, Mabel and the other pampered girls at the historic Clandeboye Estate produce vast amounts of deliciously creamy milk that is used to produce Northern Ireland’s only locally made cows’ milk yoghurt.

The owner of estate, Lady Dufferin says the milk from the Holstein and Jersey herds is blended by hand. They take it slow and make small batches. The resulting yoghurt is creamy and rich in texture but not high in fat.

They make Natural, Greek Strawberry, Raspberry, Blueberry and Toffee Caramel. They come in 150g and 450 g sizes. New to the range is the Heavenly Herd. It’s available in 500g pots. If you’re in Foodservice go for the 2-10kg containers. Hastings Hotels do!

The Fabulous Food Factory

Gary Leckey is a serious foodie. He just never stops talking about it. He knows street food is a massive trend and he loves to create fabulous food from the best local, fresh ingredients.

He puts his twist on them, so expect delights like REAL corned beef sandwiches called the “Rex” served with their own Russian dressing, sauerkraut and on malted bloomer bread.

Every mobile catering set-up has a burger, but theirs are home-made using local Dexter beef and their bread comes from a local baker.

There are always very fine vegetarian and children’s options. The filter coffee and speciality teas are Fairtrade and the packaging is 100 % compostable. With allfood not used going to homeless shelters, the sustainability and green boxes are firmly ticked also!
