Ursa Minor Bakehouse Cafe
Ursa Minor is the brightest star in the sky, but owners Dara and Ciara shine pretty bright themselves. They are the Ursa Minor bakers. They travelled and lived in New Zealand where they discovered a new passion for fresh, locally-produced food in tune with the seasons.
When they returned home to the north coast, they struggled to find real bread. So, they started making their own, along with a range of delicious sweet bakes. The breads are proved in baskets and baked on the oven floor to give them a superb crust.
The café is a happy addition to the bakehouse. It is open Thursday to Saturdays. As with their baked goods, the menu is all about a few things done exceptionally well. “The menu focuses on allowing the seasonal, local ingredients to shine, pairing a slice of their Country Loaf sourdough with North Coast Smokehouse salmon, local tomatoes and some chutney from The Woman Next Door.” There are changing weekly specials on the blackboard.
Take home one of their special bakes. It could be Smoked Kelp Sourdough, Parmesan and Smoked Black Pepper, Seeded or Walnut and Rye. We’re hungry!
